The Melbourne Documentary Film Festival is amongst the world’s newest documentary film festivals and Australia’s first competitive documentary film festival.
The Melbourne Documentary Film Festival is the only festival in Australasia to provide feedback on submissions. The feedback is simple, straight forward, positive and constructive (like a review) and gives you an insight into what the curator thought of your documentary and will be provided if you want it by applying to info@mdff.org.au.
Festival wants to highlight and promote all documentaries, but in particular:
- Documentaries from Women in Film
- Aboriginal and Indigenous documentaries
- Asian cinema
- LGBTI documentaries

Rules
- Production of the Film was not completed prior to 1 January 2013;
- The Film has never been, and will not be before 12 July 2020, released on DVD, freely available online or theatrically released other than on tugg.com (however, the Festival may at its discretion accept Films which have been theatrically released or previously screened at other festivals);
- The Film is in English or contains English subtitles
